GENERAL INFORMATION

Official Religion
Islam is the official religion of the country and is also synonymous with the
Malays. Other races are free to profess and practise any religion.

Official Language
The National language is Bahasa Malaysia (Malay) but English is widely
spoken. Other major languages used Mandarin and Tamil.

Currency / Traveller's Cheque (TC)/Credit card.
The Malaysian currency is known as Ringgit Malaysia (RM) made up of 100
sen (cents).
Ringgit note denominations are RM 100, RM 50, RM 10, RM 5, RM 2,
RM 1.
Coin denominations are 50, 20, 10, 5, and 1 sen as well as RM 1.
All major credit cards are accepted.
Licensed foreign money changers are available in all urban centres, key
entry/exit points and shopping complexes. TC can be exchanged for
Malaysian Ringgit at commercial banks, hotels and authorised money
changers. Currently one(1) USD is pegged at RM3.20.

Passport *Visa requirements.
Every visitor to Malaysia must possess an International passport or any
recognised travel document of at least 6 months validity. Visitors from certain countries need also produce a visa which is normally applied before entering country.

Illicit Drugs.
The trafficking of illicit drugs is a serious offence in Malaysia which brings to
the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

Electricity Voltage Water Closets.
Most part of the country have electricity and pipe water supply. The electricity
supply system is 220 - 240 volts. AC at 50 cycles per second, and tap water
is generally safe for direct consumption.

Airport Tax.
upon departure, an airport tax is collected.

Shopping complexes are generally concentrated in a few areas, but there are also several others scattered in the suburb around the city. The Golden Triangle, an area bounded by Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Imbi, are bustling with shopping malls;
BB Plaza, Sungei Wang Plaza, Lot 10, Berjaya Time's Square, Star Hill, KL Plaza, Plaza Low Yat
and Imbi Plaza. For more economical buy, go to the area around Jalan Dang Wangi and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. Situated there are Pertama Complex, Sogo, Wilayah Complex, Semua House, City One and Munshi Abdullah Bazaar.
 

Metrobus

Two consortiums, namely Intrakota and Cityliner, run almost all the buses in Kuala Lumpur. Intrakota and Cityliner buses charge fares calculated on the number of fare stages traveled.
